Care

A mechanical watch asks for very little. Nearly all of it is water and heat.

Water

Every watch we make is rated to five ATM.

Fine

  • Rain, washing your hands, sweat.
  • A shower, although heat and soap wear the gaskets faster than anything else on this page. Better to take it off.
  • Casual swimming, a pool or a calm sea.

That last one is not a recommendation. The watch will take it. It will last longer if you leave it on the side, and the strap minds water far more than the watch does.

Not fine

  • Diving, and snorkelling at any depth.
  • Water hit hard: jumping in, water skiing, a jet ski, standing under a waterfall.
  • Hot tubs, saunas, hot showers. Heat is what kills a seal, not depth.

Gaskets age whether the watch is worn or not. The older it gets, the less it should see water.

The dial

Every dial begins as a painting made by hand. It is UV printed onto the dial and cured hard, so the image is bonded into the surface rather than lying on it, and it holds its colour under light.

There are no indices. The dial is the artwork.

The strap

  • Keep it dry. If it does get wet, let it dry on its own, away from any heat.
  • Wipe it with a dry cloth. No soap, no solvent, no leather oil.
  • Perfume and hand cream are hard on it.
  • Do not fasten it tighter than it needs.

It will darken and soften. That is leather doing what leather does, not a fault.

The strap is covered for one year against tearing or breaking. Ordinary wear is not. A replacement is €150.

Cleaning

A microfibre cloth, the kind sold for glasses. Nothing else, and nothing wet.

Never open the case.

Winding

It winds itself as you wear it. Off the wrist it runs about forty hours and then stops. Wind it at the crown to start it again, or put it on and move.

Accuracy

Every watch is regulated here before it leaves. In practice ours run within two to ten seconds a day.

A mechanical watch drifts with temperature, with the position it rests in overnight, and with how much you wear it. Some variation is normal, and both movements leave their factories to a wider tolerance than we set.

If yours is gaining or losing more than about thirty seconds a day, write to us.

Service

Every three to five years, by us or by another professional. A service is always paid for and is not part of the warranty. Arrange one.

Never

  • Pull or turn the crown while the watch is in water.
  • Open the case, or let anyone but us open it.
  • Leave it near magnets.
  • Store it anywhere but the box it came in.
